The Oregon FFA Association held their annual Career Development Event (or CDE) Days last week on May 6 and 7. This event draws hundreds of youth each year to compete in over eight different contests from Livestock Judging to Agricultural Mechanics and Systems. These contests all relate to real-world skills, not only in agriculture, but life as well. Students develop skills in such areas as teamwork, leadership and diligence.
This year, the Baker FFA Chapter sent teams in Livestock Judging, Agricultural Mechanics and Systems, Meats Evaluation and Horse Judging. Our members worked hard all winter practicing for these contests and their efforts paid off. All four of our teams placed in the top fifteen of their respective contests and three of them cracked the top ten. Meats Evaluation placed twelfth, Livestock Judging took tenth, Agricultural Mechanics and Systems placed ninth and our Horse Judging team placed eighth. This was the best across-the-board placing for Baker at this event in many years and we are thrilled by the dedication displayed by our teams last weekend!
