Worker killed at Yakama sawmill at White Swan

WHITE SWAN, Wash. (AP) -- An electrician working on a planer at the Yakama Forest Products mill near White Swan was killed when a heavy canopy collapsed on him.

Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins told the Yakima Herald-Republic that a hydraulic cylinder holding the door may have failed.

The death Thursday was the second this year at the mill. A 20-year-old Job Corps student was crushed in January by a heavy piece of equipment.

The sawmill is owned by the Yakama Nation and produces stud lumber.
