LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) -- The Bonneville Power Administration has selected a preferred route for a 79-mile high-voltage transmission line between Castle Rock and Troutdale, Ore.

The preferred route runs mostly through Weyerhaeuser and state-owned timberlands.

The Daily News reports (http://is.gd/dQIZRW ) some landowners wanted the power line to run through more remote areas farther east.

The public can comment on the preferred route and three other options listed in an impact study released Tuesday. Six meetings are planned before the end of the year. The first will be Dec. 4 at Castle Rock Elementary School.

The BPA plans to make a decision on the $459 million project by the end of 2014. The agency hopes the 500-kilovolt line will be operating by 2018 to help meet the demand for electricity in the region.
