Oregon man sentenced for hay truck fatality

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- A judge in Eugene has sentenced a truck driver to 18 months in prison for failing to secure 25,000 pounds of hay that slid off his truck's trailer and killed the driver of another truck.

The Register-Guard says Lane Circuit Court Judge Debra Vogt on Tuesday also permanently suspended driving privileges for 43-year-old Bonnie Puckett, of Christmas Valley. Puckett pleaded guilty last week to criminally negligent homicide and hit-and-run driving.

A Sparks, Nevada, man, 37-year-old Gregory Muller, died in the March 4 accident on Highway 58 west of Oakridge.
