Portales biofuel plant restarting after 2 years
PORTALES, N.M. (AP) -- A biofuels plant in Portales is restarting Wednesday after being shuttered for nearly two years.
The 47 workers employed at the Abengoa Bioenergy USA plant will produce 25 million gallons of ethanol a year for blending with gasoline.
A statement from Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation Executive Director Greg Fisher says a renewed biofuel tax credit was a key reason the plant was able to resume operations.
The Portales News-Tribune reports that the plant uses dryland sorghum to produce the ethanol and sells the left over plant material as cattle feed.
