LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) -- Organizers of the White Bird Rodeo in north-central Idaho say the June event is still on despite an outbreak of a highly contagious and deadly horse virus.
Equine Herpes Virus-1 doesn't affect humans, but it can kill horses. Dozens of horses in at least 11 states and Canada have been infected after an outbreak that is believed to have started at a competition in Ogden, Utah.
The Lewiston Tribune reports that rodeo organizer Monty Baker says plans are moving forward for the Father's Day weekend event.
Baker says that hopefully by the time the rodeo rolls around, the outbreak will be over.
