Southwest Idaho cheese producer settles with EPA
NAMPA, Idaho (AP) -- A southwestern Idaho cheese making business has agreed to pay $91,532 following allegations by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency the company violated the Clean Air Act at its Nampa plant.
The Idaho Press Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1c00RZ5) in a story on Saturday that Sorrento Lactalis agreed to pay the money.
The EPA says Sorrento uses more than 10,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia, meaning the company is required to meet specific risk management goals that include inspections and certifying operating procedures.
Officials say Sorrento has since corrected the problems.
