Kearney, Nebraska, bans chickens within city limits

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) -- Kearney won't allow chickens within the central Nebraska city.

The city council voted Tuesday night to reject a measure that would have allowed residents to own chickens.

Council members said they were worried that if chickens were allowed, then people would want to bring other farm animals into the city.

Kearney city council member Bob Lammers says he doesn't think chickens or other farm animals like pigs and cattle are appropriate in town.

Only one council member voted for allowing chickens.

Title: Incorrect!

This was so incredibly stupid that I went to Kearney's web site and checked the minutes of their last planning commission meeting.
They have not adjusted their regulations yet, but they have this in the minutes:
Moved by Cunningham and seconded by Fredrickson to recommend to the City Council that chickens should be allowed within the corporate boundaries of the City of Kearney.
Roll call resulted as follows: Aye: McKeon, Fredrickson, Williams, Lowe, Cunningham. Nay: Ganz. Absent: Dart, Homan, McSweeney. Motion carried.
So they are on the right path. The article is incorrect.

Title: Duh. Major duh.

Wow, what a bunch of idiots. You can have up to 3 chickens in the city (an actual city) of San Francisco, for crying out loud.
