VENTURA, Calif. (AP) -- California agriculture officials say a citrus destroying pest found in Ventura County has triggered a quarantine.

The adult Asian citrus psyllid, which is smaller than a grain of rice, was found in a trap in the coastal hamlet of La Conchita.

Department of Food and Agriculture secretary A.G. Kawamura said Monday his inspectors are working to determine the extent of the infestation. A pesticide spraying strategy is also being worked up.

Ventura County has 24,000 acres of commercial citrus.

Discovery of the Asian citrus psyllid in San Bernardino County led to pesticide treatments in the Montclair and Upland areas earlier this month.
