The forests of the Okanogan Highlands were the backdrop for the 2013 District VII FFA Leadership Camp held June 13 and 14 at Camp Tonkiwanee on the shores of Lost Lake near Tonasket.  19 members of the Chelan FFA traveled to Lost Lake to participate in the leadership workshops, network with FFA members from around North Central Washington, and to select the 2013-14 District VII Officer Team.

For Lupe Villasenor it was the end of her year of service as the District VII FFA President and of a illustrious four year FFA Career.  The Chelan Chapter is proud of her accomplishments and say thank you for a job well done.  Also ending their year of service were District Treasurer Bobby Hanson and Jesus Rodriguez of the Chelan FFA.   These three officers along with Elizabeth Jackson (Vice President, Tonasket), Hayley Huber (Secretary, Wenatchee) and Dallas Tyus (Sentinel, Tonasket) prepared and present leadership workshops for the attendees, covering teamwork, trust, and team building.

Twelve members representing five chapters in District VII ran as candidates for the 2013-14 District VII Officer Team.  The candidates submitted applications that evaluated them on academic history,  FFA leadership activities, FFA CDE Activities, FFA Awards and Community and School activities and awards.  The candidates also took an FFA knowledge exam that covered District, State, and National information.   They underwent an interview with the outgoing officer team and then presented a speech to the assembly of members and each chapter delegate submitted a ballot.

The new officer team are President Apolinar Blanco from Chelan; Vice President Dane Schwartz from Chelan;  Secretary Rade Pilkinton from Tonasket; Treasurer Erick Straub from Chelan; Reporter Danika Frazier of Wenatchee; and Sentinel  Kathryn Cleman of Tonasket.

The election of Blanco carries on a strong tradition of leadership for the Chelan FFA and marks the ninth time in the last 11 years that a member of the Chelan Chapter has served as District President and 28 members who have served as District Officers in that period of time.

The District VII Officer Team will attend the District Officer Training (DOT) at Winthrop on July 15-17, 2013.
