ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) — Each year about this time, the Eaton family drives a herd of cattle from Kittitas County open range to pasture in a canyon southeast of Ellensburg.
Friends on horseback and with an authentic chuck wagon helped Ken Eaton last weekend move more than 170 cattle.
The Daily Record reports (http://bit.ly/1ipzRDc ) state Transportation Department vehicles escorted the herd when it turned up Highway 821.
Because the cows are pregnant and close to calving, Eaton says the cattle drive is safer than loading them onto trucks.
