Chelan student picked for range event

Chelan FFA member to travel to Orlando range management event.

The Pacific Northwest Section of the Society for Range Management has announced its selection to represent it at the High School Youth Forum at the 87th Annual Meeting of the SRM, and that young man will be Jairo De La Cruz of the Chelan FFA.

He will travel to Orlando Florida February 8-13, 2014 to participate in the HSYF activities which will include meeting with other high school students from around the US, Canada, and Mexico, touring the rangelands and wetlands of Central Florida, meeting range industry professionals, and meeting range scientists, producers, and agency personnel from all over the World.

The culmination of the HSYF activities will be the presentation of research projects by the students. Jairo has prepared a research project entitled the “The Potential Effect of Forest Pests on Rangeland on the Eastern Slopes of the Cascades.”

De La Cruz is the third Chelan FFA member to be selected for this honor is the last three years. Lupe Villasenor and Jakob Straub represented the PNW Section the previous two years and Blake Soreano also was selected back in 2009.
