Hay prices are dollars per ton or dollars per bale when sold to retail outlets. Basis is current delivery FOB barn or stack, or delivered customer as indicated.

Grade guidelines used in this report have the following relationship to Relative Feed Value (RFV), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients), or Crude Protein (CP) test numbers:

Compared to Dec. 13, Fair and Good Alfalfa steady in pre-holiday trading. Low bids were noted for Feeder hay but so far producers are refusing them. Timothy not tested this week as most has been sold. Demand is light to moderate. Trade near standstill as exporters are basically done and only shipping previously bought supplies. Alfalfa Export market remains slow but Timothy export market remains good. Retail/Feedstore Alfalfa and Orchard grass steady. Buyer demand good with light to moderate supplies.

Compared to Dec. 13: Prices remain mostly steady going into the holiday season. Trade activity was moderate and light buyer demand. Many producers are beginning to hold on to hay with concerns of the drought continuing. They want to make sure that they have enough hay to fill their own needs before selling. The southern part of the state was scrambling to finish baling some hay that was laid down prior to rain storm that was set to come in on Thursday night.
