COVINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say three people were injured and six horses were killed in a series of crashes after more than three dozen horses got loose from a western Ohio farm.

Miami County sheriff’s deputies say there were at least five separate crashes beginning at about 3:30 a.m. Friday near Covington, north of Dayton. Two drivers injured in the crashes were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover. There’s no word on the extent of the injuries to the third person.

WHIO reports that the horses came from a family farm, possibly getting through a hole in a fence. A phone message left for the farm owner wasn’t immediately returned.

Most of the estimated 39 horses that got loose were rounded up by later Friday morning.
