Spokane police have arrested protesters who were urging Congress to get to work on immigration reform legislation.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A dozen people seeking immigration reform were detained at a protest outside the Spokane office of U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash.
The protesters on Wednesday demanded the U.S. House of Representatives pass comprehensive immigration reform.
The Spokesman-Review says the 12 people detained by Spokane police were members of One America, a national group.
The protest was aimed at McMorris Rodgers, the third-ranking member of the GOP, and at House Speaker John Boehner.
Protesters say Boehner is blocking legislation passed by the Senate that would beef up border security and create a new program for undocumented residents to apply for legal status.
