Farmworker claims she was raped first day on the job
MADERA, Calif. (AP) — A Central California farmworker is suing her former boss, alleging that he raped her on her first day on the job and threatened to assault her again if she told anyone.
Lawyers for Maria Moreno claimed in the lawsuit filed Thursday that she was fired after she reported Parjmit Singh Bassi to police.
The lawsuit seeks lost wages and other unspecified monetary damages, plus and injunction requiring Bassi’s company in Chowchilla to provide safe and equal opportunities for all workers.
A man who answered a number listed for the farm said he couldn’t immediately comment on the lawsuit.
The Madera County District Attorney’s office has filed sexual assault charges against Bassi.
