Whatcom council OKs slaughterhouses on farmland

The Whatcom County Council has approved the construction of slaughterhouses in the county. Opponents said they were worried about the possible impact on water quality in the area.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — After a long and contentious hearing Wednesday night the Whatcom County Council narrowly approved changes to allow slaughterhouses on farmland.

Opponents are concerned about water pollution from slaughterhouse operations.
