SEATTLE — A two-day seminar Sept. 6-7 at Seattle’s Bullitt Center will expose Pacific Northwest journalists to issues surrounding climate change.
Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting at the University of Rhode Island is co-sponsor of the seminar along with the Seattle Times. Supported by
The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, this seminar is the first in a series of Metcalf Institute regional climate change seminars. The four-year initiative aims to help journalists throughout the U.S. understand climate change science and report on regional impacts with more accuracy, clarity and nuance.
The agenda will focus on effects of climate change on water supply and the ecosystems of watersheds, forests, oceans and coastal areas.
The journalists represent newspapers, television, radio and journalism schools in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia. Among the 30 attendees are Steve Forrester, president and CEO of EO Media Group, which includes the Capital Press, and Steve Brown, staff writer covering Western Washington for the Capital Press.
