The nine members of the Willamette Valley Ag Expo Board of Directors each serve a minimum three-year term laced with hard work that depends on smooth interactions between themselves, the sponsoring Willamette Valley Ag Association and their colleagues in the agricultural industry.
Bill Lusk of Ag West Supply remains the chairman of the group and Eric Fery of Ag Chains Plus remains vice chairman. Terry Marstall of Les Schwab Tires, Don Kropf of Linn-Benton Tractor, Mike Brown of DeJong Products, Carl Laux of Papé Machinery, Andy Steinkamp of Wilco Co-op and Steve Prouty of NW 94 Sales also continue in their board member roles.
Eric Martin of Boshart Trucking, based in Tangent, is the new member, taking over from long-time member Stacy Koos of Citizens Bank.
Board members are elected by the members of the Willamette Valley Ag Association and are exhibitors or at-large that have participated in the Expo for at least a year. A WVAA committee accepts the nominations in advance, and they are voted on at the annual meeting, which this year falls on Thursday, Nov. 16.
“We meet once a month throughout the year to talk about what’s going on with the show, what we can do to make the show better, go through our budget and we send out a scholarship, typically to an FFA student,” said Laux, who is serving his second year on the board. “We try to focus on farm kids, those who are going to be involved in agriculture for the rest of the lives.”
Laux mentioned the hugely successful Dine Around Oregon event, which he called “a big draw and a big boost for the Expo.” He added that the evening movable feast “has generated more revenue for us, and the FFA kids do a tremendous job working that event.”
