Fire burns wood pellet business in Banks
BANKS, Oregon (AP) — A two-alarm fire has damaged the West Oregon Wood Products business in Banks, which makes pellets for wood stoves.
KOIN reports the fire was reported about 3:15 a.m. Thursday and went to two alarms.
Banks Fire District Chief Brian Coussens says four employees safely evacuated.
The company president, Mike Knobel, says the fire started with an explosion outside the building in an area used for air filtration.
Firefighters said it appears that the fire was fueled by burning equipment, plastic wrap and piles of wood pellets and dust.
