Oregon hail spares commercial farms

A fierce hail storm that pummeled Southeast Portland and Milwaukie Monday afternoon bruised home gardens but appears to have spared commercial farming operations.
A National Weather Service spokesman at the Portland International Airport said the storm cut a narrow swath through the urban area. The storm featured hazelnut-sized hail accompanied by lightning and thunder. http://koin.com/2014/06/16/heavy-rain-hail-lightning-roll-through-portland/
A check with the Oregon State University research and extension offices in Wilsonville and Columbia County turned up no immediate reports of crop damage, however. Sauvie Island farms also escaped harm. Home gardeners weren’t so lucky, as the hail tore leaves off plants, knocked down blossoms and flattened vegetable seedlings.
