Silverton man accused of killing neighbor’s dog

The man, who said he was defending his livestock from the dog, was charged with aggravated animal abuse and is due in court July 3.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Marion County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Silverton man accused of fatally shooting his neighbor’s dog.

Sgt. Chris Baldridge says 69-year-old Monty Fisher shot the Alaskan Husky named Xavier on May 27. Fisher told investigators he was defending livestock at the time, but Baldridge says deputies found witnesses who said the dog was not chasing any livestock.

Fisher was charged with aggravated animal abuse and is due in court July 3.

Baldridge says the investigation remains active and any other witnesses are asked to call Deputy Cooper at 503-576-7220.
