Western hay price report

Demand remains good for all grades of Alfalfa in the Columbia Basin.

Hay prices are dollars per ton or dollars per bale when sold to retail outlets. Basis is current delivery FOB barn or stack, or delivered customer as indicated. Grade guidelines used in this report have the following relationship to Relative Feed Value (RFV), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients), or Crude Protein (CP) test numbers:

Dec. 1

Compared to Nov. 17: All classes traded steady with moderate demand. Recent rains have encouraged the emergence of winter grains and silage crops and they were growing well. Early plantings of small grains showed good emergence. Growers continued to prepare more fields for fall planting of wheat, barley, and oats. Silage corn grew well and harvesting was ongoing. Cotton fields were defoliated and harvesting was in full swing.
