Bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during May ended the reporting week on Thursday, May 1, at $7.80-7.9225, mostly $7.8525.

Grains are stated in dollars per bushel or hundredweight (cwt.) except feed grains traded in dollars per ton. National grain report bids are for rail delivery unless truck indicated.

CASH SOFT WHITE WHEAT

Pacific Northwest: Bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during May ended the reporting week on Thursday, May 1, at $7.80-7.9225, mostly $7.8525. Bids were 13.25 to 25 cents per bushel higher than April 24 bids for May delivery of $7.55-7.79, mostly $7.6925.

White club wheat premiums for this week were 50 to 80 cents, mostly 60 cents per bushel over soft white wheat bids compared to 50 to 80 cents, mostly 58 cents per bushel over soft white wheat bids.

One year ago bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during May ended May 1, 2013 at $7.75-7.76 mostly $7.7550 with white club wheat premiums at zero cents per bushel. Nearby bids for U.S. 1 Soft White wheat began the week on April 25 at mostly $7.8475, before falling slightly to mostly $7.8450 on April 28 and then fell again to the weekly low of mostly $7.79 on April 29. Bids moved to the weekly high of mostly $7.9150 on April 30. May 1, bids moved lower to mostly $7.8525.

There were no new confirmed export sales of white wheat this week. Forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: June $7.8925-7.9225, July $7.66-7.69, August New Crop $7.50-7.66, and September $7.66-7.71. One year ago, forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: June $7.70-7.86, July $7.7050-7.86, August New Crop $7.70-7.7550, and September $7.7050-7.7550.

Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of April 24, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, totaled 616.0 thousand MT compared to 712.2 thousand MT on April 17 and 300.0 thousand MT one year ago. Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 178.5, Philippines 125.3, South Korea 107.0, Indonesia 40.0, Guatemala 23.3, Thailand 20.0, Taiwan 12.9, Malaysia 12.5, Nigeria 7.1, Vietnam 2.2, China 2.0, Burma 1.0, Hong Kong 0.8, Canada 0.7, United Arab Emirates 0.7 and total unknown 82.0. Accumulated white wheat export shipments as of April 24, 2014, in 1000 MT for the 2013-14 marketing year, totaled 3837.1 compared to 4285.6 one year ago.

Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of April 24, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, in 1000 MT, totaled 45.0 compared to 45.0 on April 17, and 2.4 one year ago. Outstanding barley export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year in 1000 MT were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 36.8, South Korea 7.4 and Taiwan 0.8. Accumulated barley export shipments as of April 24, were 135.9 thousand MT compared to 131.4 one year ago.

COARSE FEEDING GRAINS

Bids for U.S. 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in single rail cars were not available. Bids for U.S. 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Wash., and Hermiston, Ore., were also not available. Bids for U.S. 2 Heavy White Oats for May delivery were $275.00, steady compared to April 23 noon bids.
