Western grain report

Bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during April ended the reporting week on Thursday, April 17, at $7.6125-7.7625, mostly $7.7175.

Grains are stated in dollars per bushel or hundredweight (cwt.) except feed grains traded in dollars per ton. National grain report bids are for rail delivery unless truck indicated.

CASH SOFT WHITE WHEAT

Pacific Northwest: Bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during April ended the reporting week on Thursday, April 17, at $7.6125-7.7625, mostly $7.7175. Bids were 16.25 to 29 cents per bushel higher than April 10 bids for April delivery of $7.3225-7.60, mostly $7.4975.

White club wheat premiums for this week and last week were 50 cents per bushel over soft white wheat bids. One year ago bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat and white club wheat for April delivery were $7.8875-7.95, mostly $7.92.

Nearby bids for U.S. 1 Soft White wheat began the reporting week on April 11 at mostly $7.4825 then rose to mostly $7.6050 on April 14, and mostly $7.7875 on April 15, before falling lower to mostly $7.6725 on April 16. April 17 bids moved lower to mostly $7.7175.

New confirmed export sales of white wheat this week were to Taiwan and Japan. Forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: May $7.6325-7.7625, June $7.69-7.79, July $7.4825-7.79 and August New Crop $7.4825-7.5825. One year ago, forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: May $7.9375-8, June $7.90-8.10, July $7.6375-7.8225 and August New Crop $7.6375-7.65.

Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of April 10, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, totaled 837.7 thousand MT compared to 907.9 thousand MT on April 3 and 475.3 thousand MT one year ago. Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 215.2, Philippines 106.3, Yemen 100.0, South Korea 66.7, Thailand 46.0, Indonesia 40.0, Guatemala 34.3, Colombia 20.0, Taiwan 12.9, Malaysia 12.5, Nigeria 7.1, Vietnam 2.3, China 2.0, Mexico 1.4, Burma 1.0, Canada 0.5, Hong Kong 0.5 and total unknown 169.0. Accumulated white wheat export shipments as of April 10 in 1000 MT for the 2013-2014 marketing year, totaled 3549.7 compared to 4124.3 one year ago.

Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of April 10, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, in 1000 MT, totaled 44.1 compared to 44.1 on April 3, 2014 and 4.3 one year ago. Outstanding barley export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year in 1000 MT were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 35.8, South Korea 7.3 and Taiwan 1.0. Accumulated barley export shipments as of April 10, were 135.4 thousand MT compared to 131.2 one year ago.

COARSE FEEDING GRAINS

Bids for U.S. 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in single rail cars were not available. Bids for U.S. 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Wash., and Hermiston, Ore., were also not available. Bids for U.S. 2 Heavy White Oats for April delivery were $270, steady with April 10 noon bids.
