Portland and West Coast grain markets

Bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during April ended the reporting week on Thursday, April 3, at $7.46-7.80, mostly $7.6950.

Grains are stated in dollars per bushel or hundredweight (cwt.) except feed grains traded in dollars per ton. National grain report bids are for rail delivery unless truck indicated.

CASH SOFT WHITE WHEAT

Pacific Northwest: Bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during April ended the reporting week on Thursday, April 3, at $7.46-7.80, mostly $7.6950. Bids were 30.50 to 39 cents per bushel lower than last March 28 bids for April delivery of $7.85-8.1050.

White club wheat premiums for this week were 50 to 60 cents, mostly 52 cents per bushel over soft white wheat bids, and last week’s premiums were 50 cents per bushel over soft white wheat bids.

One year ago bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat and white club wheat for April delivery were $7.95-8.1150, mostly 8.0550. Nearby bids for US 1 Soft White wheat began the reporting week on March 28 at mostly $7.7775 then rose to the weekly high of mostly $7.8350 on March 31, before falling to mostly $7.7150 on April 2 and mostly $7.63 on April 3. April 4, bids moved slightly higher to mostly $7.6950.

Several exporters were not issuing bids for nearby delivery. There were no new confirmed export sales of white wheat this week. Forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: May $7.46-7.80, June $7.5175-7.6675, July $7.2675-7.3175 and August New Crop $7.3525-7.4025. One year ago, forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: May $7.95-8.1150, June $7.95-8.10, July $7.95-8 and August New Crop $7.30-7.5025.

Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of March 27, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, totaled 988.5 thousand MT compared to 1037.0 thousand MT on March 20, 2014, and 653.3 thousand MT one year ago.

Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 259.7, Philippines 116.3, Yemen 100.0, South Korea 75.3, Thailand 68.0, Indonesia 40.0, Guatemala 37.5, Taiwan 24.0, Colombia 20.0, Malaysia 12.5, Vietnam 8.5, Nigeria 7.1, China 2.0, Mexico 1.4, Burma 1.0, Canada 0.5, Hong Kong 0.3 and total unknown 214.4. Accumulated white wheat export shipments as of March 27, 2014, in 1000 MT for the 2013-2014 marketing year, totaled 3375.1 compared to 3869.3 one year ago.

Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of March 27, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, in 1000 MT, totaled 43.1 compared to 42.9 on March 20, and 1.9 one year ago. Outstanding barley export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year in 1000 MT were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 35.8, South Korea 6.3 and Taiwan 1.0. Accumulated barley export shipments as of March 27, 2014 were 135.4 thousand MT compared to 131.2 one year ago.

COARSE FEEDING GRAINS

Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in single rail cars were not available. Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Wash., and Hermiston, Ore., were also not available. Bids for US 2 Heavy White Oats for April delivery were $270, steady with March 28 noon bids.
