Western grain markets

Bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during March ended the reporting week on Thursday, March 20, at $7.55-7.7875, mostly $7.67.

Grains are stated in dollars per bushel or hundredweight (cwt.) except feed grains traded in dollars per ton. National grain report bids are for rail delivery unless truck indicated.

CASH SOFT WHITE WHEAT

Pacific Northwest: Bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat, delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during March ended the reporting week on Thursday, March 20, at $7.55-7.7875, mostly $7.67.

Bids were 15 to 25 cents per bushel higher than March 13 bids for March delivery of $7.40-7.5375, mostly $7.4675. White club wheat premiums for this week and last week were 50 cents per bushel over soft white wheat bids.

One year ago bids for U.S. 1 Soft White Wheat and white club wheat for March delivery were $8.45-8.66, mostly $8.52.

Nearby bids for U.S. 1 Soft White wheat began the reporting week on March 14 at mostly $7.5375 before dropping lower to the weekly low on March 17 at mostly $7.4725 then rising higher to mostly $7.6125 on March 18 and continuing higher to mostly $7.7050 on March 19. March 20, bids moved slightly lower, mostly $7.67. Several exporters were not issuing bids for nearby delivery.

New confirmed export sales of white wheat this week were limited to the Commodity Credit Corporation of the USDA. Forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: April $7.55-7.8375 May $7.55-7.8175, June $7.7050-7.7550 and August New Crop $7.47-7.52. One year ago, forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: April $8.45-8.66, May $8.40-8.66, June $8.40-8.50 and August New Crop $7.7425-7.7925.

Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of March 13, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, totaled 1087.7 thousand MT compared to 1031.5 thousand MT on March 6 and 753.8 thousand MT one year ago.

Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 260.7, South Korea 156.6, Philippines 100.7, Thailand 85.0, Yemen 45.0, Indonesia 40.0, Guatemala 37.8, Taiwan 24.0, Columbia 20.0, Nigeria 19.2, Malaysia 13.3, Vietnam 8.8, Burma 2.5, China 2.0, Mexico 1.4, Canada 0.8, Hong Kong 0.3, United Arab Emirates 0.1 and total unknown 269.5. Accumulated white wheat export shipments as of March 13 in 1000 MT for the 2013-14 marketing year, totaled 3186.5 compared to 3725.2 one year ago.

Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of March 13, for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2013, and ending May 31, 2014, in 1000 MT, totaled 43.2 compared to 42.9 on March 6 and 2.2 one year ago. Outstanding barley export sales for the 2013-14 marketing year in 1000 MT were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 35.8, South Korea 6.4 and Taiwan 1.0. Accumulated barley export shipments as of March 13 were 134.7 thousand MT compared to 130.8 one year ago.

COARSE FEEDING GRAINS

Bids for U.S. 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in single rail cars were not available. Bids for U.S. 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Wash., and Hermiston, Ore., were also not available. Bids for U.S. 2 Heavy White Oats for March delivery were $270, steady with March 13 noon bids.
