The trade war appears to be worsening. The tariff increase to China went from 7.5 percent to now 32.5 percent.

Hay prices are dollars per ton or dollars per bale when sold to retail outlets. Basis is current delivery FOB barn or stack, or delivered customer as indicated. Grade guidelines used in this report have the following relationship to Relative Feed Value (RFV), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients), or Crude Protein (CP) test numbers:

Compared to June 6: Export and domestic Alfalfa steady to weak. Timothy for export steady. Trade moderate to active with moderate demand. High testing Alfalfa is in short supply. Tariff increase to China went from 7.5 percent to now 32.5 percent. Note that commodities in general are struggling this week thanks to the announcement of another large round of tariffs imposed on Chinese goods. Furthermore, China is expected to retaliate. In short, the trade war appears to be worsening. Most Chinese hay exporters have pulled off the market. Retail/Feed store steady.

Most hay growers have cut 2018 hay and are selling now. Recent rains in the growing areas has created a large supply rain damaged hay. All sales in this report are 2018 crop year hay, unless noted by Old Crop.
