The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality through Sept. 28 seeks applicants for grants of up to $25,000 to develop or improve sustainable-materials management projects in the state.

The agency’s goals include reducing food waste and packaging waste. Colleges and nonprofit organizations are among eligible recipients. Application materials say sustainable-food-management projects should address strategies to divert food waste from landfills and focus on reducing waste rather than diverting it.

Projects should demonstrate lasting impact in the area served, Idaho DEQ said in a news release.
