Quincy FFA chapter a big winner at fair

When the dust settled, and all the cards had been scored and tallied, the Quincy FFA was the big winner, bringing home 6 banners.

On Friday, Sept. 14, a busload of bright-eyed Quincy, Wash., FFA members traveled to Othello to compete in the Horse, Livestock, Dairy, Small Animal and Tractor Driving Career Development Events at the Othello Community Fair.

When the dust settled, and all the cards had been scored and tallied, the Quincy FFA was the big winner, bringing home 6 banners.

In the Horse CDE, members judge 4 halter classes: Quarter Horse Mares, Saddle Mules, Paint Mares and Stock Horse Gelding and a performance class of Western Pleasure. The team of Madison Lee, Rosey Combs, Cynthia Diaz, Hailey McKee and Avery Vanderveen earned the 1st place banner and the team of Kian Fox, Stephanie Aguirre, Shannon Workinger, Krista Kirk, and Jordan Clark brought home the 5th place banner.

Individually, Stephanie Aguirre was 3rd, Rosey Combs 4th, Hailey McKee 6th, Cynthia Diaz 7th and Avery Vanderveen 10th.

In the Livestock CDE, members judged 2 classes of market swine, 2 classes of market steers, and 2 classes of market lambs. The team of Paden Wallace, Michael Spence, Chase Schuler, Cooper Raap, and Brody Wallace brought home the 2nd Place banner with Brody earning the 1st place individual spot.

In the Dairy CDE team members judged a class of Springing Heifers, Yearling Heifers, and 3 classes of Dairy Goats. The team of Myrladis Lopez, Gabriel Etue, Melody Rosas, Cynthia Ruelas, and Kylie Breeden earned the 4th place team banner. Eulalio Cazarez finished as the 9th place individual.

In the Small Animal Jamboree CDE, members judged meat rabbits, breeding rabbits, heavy bird laying hens, market goats and pullets. The team of Taran Brown, Paden Wallace, Avery Vanderveen, Cody Main and Hailey McKee earned the 1st place banner. The team of Reid Thomsen, Shannon Workinger, TreyVaughn Bieirlink, Stephanie Aguirre, and Zane McKee brought home the 5th place banner. Individually, Taran Brown was 2nd, Avery Vanderveen 5th, Paden Wallace 6th, Cynthia Diaz 8th and Madison Lee 9th.

The Tractor Driving team of Gavin Sahli, Nate Gonzales and Chase Schuler finished just out of the banners in 6th place. Members now start preparing for the upcoming Career Development Events which include State Tractor Driving, State Potato Grading and State Apple Evaluation.

In addition, 6 members will travel to Indianapolis to compete in the Hall of States Event at the 91st National FFA Convention at the end of October.
