Washington FFA Foundation
A new golf tournament is planned to help raise funds for the Washington FFA Foundation to support the work of the organization’s statewide officers.
The first Washington FFA Foundation golf tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima. A dinner and auction will follow at 6 p.m.
The event will help raise funds for state officer outreach, recruitment and member retention, said Jesse Taylor, executive director of the foundation.
“Our officer team is our recruiters,” he said. “They travel to upwards of 80 to 100 schools, and speak to nearly every kid (about what) our program has to offer. That’s a lot of help for our program as a whole.”
Three officers are in eastern Washington and three in western Washington, Taylor said. Costs include workshops, leadership conferences, supplies and membership recruitment and retention.
Taylor hopes to raise $24,000 at the fundraiser, or $4,000 per state officer.
The foundation is seeking corporate sponsors for the tournament and auction and prize donations.
Taylor hopes to have at least 72 people, a foursome at each hole, at the tournament.
The event is also designed as a reward for foundation sponsors, he said.
Taylor said he’s already been hearing from enthusiastic sponsors and participants.
“FFA sends kids into the ag workforce,” he said. “That helps out employers.”
