Quincy FFA ‘Hall of Chapters’ booth wins at state

The team will now design, prepare and man a booth at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October in the Hall of States competition.

State FFA Convention is always a stressful time. You always seem to be waiting. You are waiting for your team, you are waiting to compete, you are waiting for your results, and you are waiting!

Sometimes the wait was worth it! You placed at state and will be up on stage receiving a plaque for your efforts. Or it could be the reverse. The anticipation was too much, and your expectations for your team are shattered when you find out how you really did.

Either way, you tried your best, and there is nothing more you can do about it.

This year at the State FFA Convention, expectations were raised for the Quincy FFA chapter. The chapter participated in multiple CDE’s (Career Development Events) and LDE’s (Leadership Development Events) including First Year CDE, Parliamentary Procedure LDE and Meats Evaluation.

The Quincy FFA Chapter’s “Hall of Chapters” booth placed 1st! The team, consisting of Gavin Sahli, Jane Kennedy, and Taran Brown, will be attending the National FFA Convention next school year, representing Washington state. The Hall of Chapters event requires chapters to design and man a booth that provides information about their FFA Chapter, Local Agriculture, and how the Chapter interacts with local agriculture. They are evaluated on how professional their booth looks, setting up and tearing down their booth, the information provided, using multiple platforms to provide information and how the members interacted with the public.

The team will now design, prepare, and man a booth at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October in the Hall of States competition. The booth will inform attendees about Washington agriculture and the Washington FFA Association and they will be evaluated on similar criteria.

Also, the Meats Evaluation team, consisting of Eli Westra, Erin Brisbine, Paden Wallace, Tomas Workinger and Sierra Reynolds, placed 5th at state. They identified retail cuts, quality and yield graded beef carcasses, completed a ground beef formulation, took a food safety test, placed classes of retail, wholesale and carcasses and team practicum.

Eli Westra, Sierra Reynolds, Bethany Safe, Anne Safe, Bryanna Gray, Stacia Sarty, Jordan Clark, Patrick White, Madison Reynolds, Leslie Torres-Rubio, Eileen Perez, Pade Wallace and Cody Main represented the Quincy FFA in the Parliamentary Procedure LDE but didn’t make it into the State Finals.

Rosey Combs, Taran Brown, Jane Kennedy, Chase Schuler, Cade Westra, Trytan Ortiz, and Dave Sulisto competed in the First Year Greenhand CDE but didn’t make the final round of state competition, as well.

Noah Nielson served as our Chapter Delegate and participated in the business meetings for the State Association serving as secretary of the Finance Committee. He, along with Bethanny Safe, also received their State FFA Degree.

State Convention is a great experience and the Quincy Chapter is definitely looking forward to next year. With a rise in members, State convention is looking promising. Since 2018 was the year that most of our members were competing for the first time, we expect to do better in the years to come.
