The supply of hay in California is very tight as all regions are in full production.

Hay prices are dollars per ton or dollars per bale when sold to retail outlets. Basis is current delivery FOB barn or stack, or delivered customer as indicated.

Grade guidelines used in this report have the following relationship to Relative Feed Value (RFV), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients), or Crude Protein (CP) test numbers:

Rain showers the first part of the week slowed trading. Timothy for export was steady to $20 higher with most advances for Premium Export Horse Timothy. Most producers are now on second cutting Alfalfa. Retail/Feedstore Orchard grass steady. Buyer demand good with light to moderate supplies.

Compared to June 6: Prices traded mostly steady in most areas. Demand remained very good in all regions on active trading activity. The supply of hay in California is very tight as all regions are in full production. Region 6 is facing the summer heat and quality of hay is dropping. The summer also is bringing on the water usage from wells and they have been dropping and maintenance to extend those wells are a month or two out for the service.
